Napa Valley, February 2021 – The Napa Valley Academy announces the launch of a new online course, Wine 201 : Discover the wines of the world. This course is a continuation of the very popular Wine 101 course from two years ago, and allows students to explore wine in a deeper and broader way.
This advanced course is 100% online and includes 26 lessons, videos, interactive exercises, review, quizzes and a final exam. Upon successful completion of the course, the participant will receive a certificate of completion that can be printed (and framed).
Wine 201 is ideal for students who have completed the Wine 101 course and want to take the next steps to becoming a wine expert, as well as for wine lovers or artisans who already have prior knowledge and want to take an advanced course to deepen their knowledge of the world’s most important wines.
We are pleased to be able to offer this new course at an affordable price, but with a comprehensive offering for those who wish to deepen their knowledge of the wines of the world, explains the Academy’s founder, R. Christian Oggenfuss. This course provides a good overview of the aspects of the wine world that will help students advance their careers in the wine industry or allow them to comfortably discuss the wines of the world with friends and family, he added. As we all go through a pandemic, online education is becoming increasingly popular, and we’re excited to expand the options for wine lovers everywhere – and at affordable prices, he said.
The course is currently available on the Napa Valley Wine Academy website and costs $199. The course is offered asynchronously, which means that students can take the course online at their convenience. Advice is given on purchasing wine, which students can buy at their own expense. Upon registration, students are invited to join the Academy’s robust online community, which provides opportunities for online interaction and engagement.
The instructor, Jess Helfand, is a long time teacher at the Academy and teaches courses at all levels, from basic courses to commercially oriented professional courses. Jess Helfand explains that the goal of Wine 201 is to provide a comprehensive base of wines from around the world, with a focus on wines relevant to the U.S. market for both professionals and amateurs. The material is straightforward, informative, enthusiastic and a little playful. Wine should not be shrouded in mystery, and knowledge should not seem inaccessible. For this course, I have developed attractive graphs and charts that complement the text to explain important topics and ensure understanding, says Helfand. My goal is to make all information about wine accessible and easy to digest, she adds.
This course covers a wide range of topics, from the basics of fermentation to sherry styles. The topics covered range from the role of the grape to its expression in the world. If you have never heard of Cheyenne Blanc de Saugenier, this is an opportunity for you to learn all about him, says Mr. Helfand.
