February 9, 2021, Rose Hill, NC – The largest winery in the South, Duplin Winery of Rose Hill, has opened a family winery in an exciting third location. Located on a 70-acre site in the former Hombre Golf Club, Duplin Winery is building a 35,000-square-foot facility that will host an award-winning, casual Southern-style wine tasting experience featuring branded beverages, gourmet meals, merchandise, entertainment and favorite American sweet wines. It is scheduled to open in early 2022. With an initial investment of $15 million, the attraction will employ more than 50 people. More than 20 acres of the property will be dedicated to preserving and protecting the country’s natural beauty.
The award-winning Duplin winery is known for its “fresh, sweet and light” wines. Accompanied by ice cream cocktails, homemade crackers and muscadine cheese sauce, Duplin wine tastings are popular in a guided, relaxed and fun atmosphere. At the Panama City Beach Tasting Station, guests can sample a variety of Duplin wines while being entertained with fun facts about the Muscadin grape, winemaking in the South, Duplin’s rich family history and the “Life is Sweeter with Duplin” experience. A demonstration of hand bottling will be accompanied by a presentation on the beginnings of the winery, when Duplin began selling his wines in jars before moving on to bottling. Duplin’s signature Mason Jar remains a favorite among wine lovers, as some wines are available in jars.
“We are thrilled to bring our relaxed lifestyle from Carolina to Panama City Beach,” says Jonathan Fussell, co-owner/president of the Duplin Wine Family and director of the winery’s tasting department. “In North Carolina, we take our wines seriously, but we’re relaxed in life. We’re going to create a place where people can relax, listen to live music and learn a little more about our wines. We plan to welcome groups, parties and families. Adults will love it, and so will children. In addition to our wines, we will also be serving our Sweetzer iced drinks, which can also be made non-alcoholic. For families, this is a unique attraction that everyone can enjoy.”
“My family has been making wine in Rose Hill, North Carolina, for more than 45 years,” says Fassel. “Over the years, this experience has taught us to be more than just a vineyard. We have learned to create a true entertainment destination, a place where people enjoy spending time, where they feel comfortable bringing friends and family, and where they can enjoy the Duplin lifestyle,” Fussell said. “In 2015, we opened our second location in Northtle Beach, South Carolina, and its success has exceeded our expectations. The serene atmosphere of Panama City Beach is perfect for Duplin’s COOL SWEET and EASY lifestyle. Once we open, guests will be able to enjoy wine tastings, live music and winemaking six days a week.” Eventually, a wedding chapel, vineyards and clubs will be built to expand on our original vision.”
Duplin Winery is the largest winery on the East Coast. Co-owners Dave Fussell, Jr, who is the president and general manager of Duplin Winery, and his brother Jonathan Fussell are heavily involved in the daily operations of the winery, hosting tastings, participating in the winemaking process and sharing their vision of “Life is Sweeter with Duplin.”
“We believe in working together at Duplin,” said Jonathan Fussell. “We are proud to share our sense of family and commitment to excellence with our guests, and we look forward to making new friends at our new location in Panama City Beach.”
