(March 3, 2021 – Santa Rosa, CA) – After helping to bring Yao Ming’s 2009 vintage wines to the U.S. market 10 years ago, Tom Hinde has decided to step down as founding winemaker and devote all his time and energy to other projects such as Calina, Kintera Wines, Cru 9, Napa Bench, House of Cards, Taub Family Vineyards, Au Contraire and Mon Frere.

Tom Hinde, who has worked in the wine industry for over 30 years, was the ideal candidate for the Yao Family Wines project. Tom managed all aspects of winemaking for the Yao Ming brand, which sources the grapes for its California Cabernet Sauvignons, such as Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon and Family Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon, from renowned wineries in Napa Valley. These highly sought after varieties have scored over 90 points and remain in high demand.

I am very proud to have founded this great brand with our first vintages, to have developed its wine program, to have established it in the American market and to have anchored its place as a wine of exceptional quality among its Napa Valley peers, said Hinde. The timing is perfect to pass the torch to the next persons responsible for this great project. I look forward to devoting my time, energy and attention to supporting my current client list.

Prior to that, Tom was vice president and general manager of Kendall-Jackson Wine Estates for 16 years, from 1989 to 2005. Tom managed the day-to-day farming and winemaking operations in Sonoma and Mendocino Counties, where he was general manager of La Crema Winery and Hartford Family Winery and helped La Crema grow into one of the largest producers of pinot noir in Sonoma County. Tom has worked on the winemaking teams of Cabernet, Lakoya, Cardinale, Stonestreet and Verite producers. Tom brings knowledge of the industry, from consumer to vineyard, with a strong market perspective.

In partnership with the Taub family, Tom is the head winemaker for the Taub family vineyards in Napa, representing some of the best locations on St. Helena, Rutherford, Oakville, Yountville, Mount Veeder and Howell Mountain. He also oversees the vinification of the Au Contraire family’s wines from Sonoma and the California series Mon Frere.

I am happiest when working with entrepreneurs to create wine brands and their delicious wines, says Hinde. Over the years I have learned that making good wines starts with the best source of fruit. I have always paid close attention to realizing the greatest potential of each cannabis family and their unique vineyards.
