Suzanne Groth was elected as Chairman of the Board of the Wine Institute on March 16, 2018. Groth Vineyards and Winery is a family owned and operated winery located in the Mid-Peninsula in the Santa Cruz Mountains of California. Founded in 2000 by the Groth family and Paul Plew, the winery currently has 30 acres of vineyards planted with premium varietal grapes and produces about 500,000 bottles of wine per year.

Suzanne Groth has been appointed to the post of Chairman of the Wine Institute. The Wine Institute is a non-profit organization dedicated to growing and promoting American wine, which is why they have worked so hard to bring new and interesting wines to the American market.

The members of the Wine Institute’s board of directors are all industry leaders in the wine business. This year, Suzanne Groth was elected to Chair the Board. Suzanne has been the Winery Director for Groth Vineyards & Winery since 2011. Her wine has won numerous awards and accolades, including the 2016 Best of Class Winery Award from the Wine Institute.

We California vintners are fortunate to grow and produce our legendary wines here in an ideal and diverse climate. Despite the many challenges, especially in the past year where we are going through an unprecedented period, we are finding golden opportunities, said Suzanne Groth, president and CEO of Groth Vineyards & Winery. If a winemaker wants to grow and produce the best wines in the world, there is no better soil, climate or market access than California.

A second generation member of the Groth Vineyards & Winery family, Groth became president and CEO in 2017. She previously led the family business as vice president of sales and marketing. She previously worked in wine sales and public relations for 19 years. Previously, Ms. Grote worked for Henry Wine Group, a California wine distributor, where she sold wine to restaurants and retailers in San Francisco.

Groth Vineyards & Winery has been a member of the Wine Institute since 1984 and joined the board in 2014. Groth has also served as president of the Oakville Vintners since 2019 and as a board member since 2013.

Wine Institute members also elected new district directors, part-time directors and associate directors. The election of the district management committees and their substitutes took place according to the principle of 1 member – 1 vote per district, on the proposal of the regional winegrowers’ associations.
