Apr 14 – (Napa – CALIFORNIA) – The Napa Valley Wine Academy (NVWA), America’s premier wine academy, has announced three new scholarships designed to make wine education accessible to diverse applicants. Thanks to the NVWA Education Foundation, the school’s non-profit foundation, the mission to promote diversity in the wine industry continues with the creation of these new programs.

The Napa Valley Wine Academy was born out of a desire to put the student at the center of everything we do. For too long the wine industry has been an industry of exclusion rather than inclusion, says Christian Oggenfuss, founder of the NVWA. She certainly was when it came to equal opportunity for people of color, women and the LGBTQ community.

NVWA’s scholarship programs, which invest in the advancement of the wine world while supporting charitable organizations that benefit a wide range of people, include tuition support from the Wine and Spirit Education Trust (WSET), Business of Wine and other certifications offered by the Academy.

The three new scholarship programs focused on diversity and inclusion are:

African American Winegrowers Association

The AAAV scholarship program is open to BIPOC or anyone who is actively working to increase diversity in the wine industry. The program awards 24 scholarships per course to candidates who demonstrate a commitment to diversity in the wine industry. Applications must be submitted by 30. June 2021 possible. Apply here.

The Chloe Wine Collection Scholarship Program for Success

The Chloe Wine Collection’s Learn for Success scholarship program is open to women and awards five separate $1,000 scholarships to applicants who work (or are entering) the wine industry and decide to use the scholarship to advance their careers. Applications must be submitted by the 15th. May 2021 possible. Apply here.

The Roots Foundation

The Roots Foundation was established to support underrepresented minorities in the wine industry. It invests in the black, indigenous and Latino wine community to create opportunities for people who want to pursue careers and education in all aspects of the wine industry. Applications are accepted from the 5th. May 2021 adopted. More information here.

We are proud to partner with some of the most progressive organizations to create diversity opportunities in wine education. We are proud to play an active role in changing the face of our industry and increasing the diversity of people who will shape its future, Mr. Oggenfuss added.

The NVWA 501c3 Education Foundation has partnered in the past with organizations such as Wine Unified, as well as NBA star and wine enthusiast Josh Hart and Wine Access, who offer scholarships to aspiring BIPOC wine professionals, and will continue to do so. Napa Valley Wine Academy believes that education is the cornerstone to better careers and higher levels of hospitality, and that everyone deserves access to education, regardless of financial status.
