Portland Cider Co. today announced the launch of its seasonal blueberry Bourbon Basil Cider in partnership with Blue Star Donuts, an iconic Portland donut shop known for its brioche stories and gourmet flavors.

Portland Cider Co.’s Blueberry Bourbon Basil Cider is inspired by the sweet and colorful Blue Star Blueberry Bourbon Basil doughnut, which combines sweet, fresh blueberries and spicy basil with a hint of local bourbon for a hint of caramel depth. Like the donut, Portland Cider Co. Blueberry Basil is a mixture of clear blueberries, fresh basil with herbs and rich, deep notes of ripened bourbon oak (6% ABV).

COVID-19 has been the hardest time for local small businesses, and the forced closures have made it incredibly difficult to launch a new product, said Helen Lewis, sales manager of Portland Cider Co. That’s another reason we’re happy to be working with Blue Star Donuts. By supporting each other and promoting our cider and their donuts, we hope to strengthen the idea of supporting Portland’s small independent businesses during this holiday period.

Blueberry Bourbon Basil was launched at the beginning of the year in a 19.2 oz. format. Can launched, the first in the Small Batch range, allowing ciders to benefit from taste innovation and expand the pack sizes of ciders preferred by cider lovers. With the arrival of the cider, Portland Cider Co. is making this year’s popular seasonal launch more affordable by expanding the cider package with six 12-ounce cans in addition to the 19.2ounce individual cans and barrels.

Portland Cider Co. and Blue Star Donuts have worked together several times over the years, including for various events and to introduce cider in Blue Star Donut stores. Since 2013, Blue Star Donuts uses the award-winning flagship of Portland Cider Co. for its hard cider donuts.

said Katie Poppe, CEO and owner of Blue Star Donuts: Working with Portland Cider has been fun from day one! We have cherished their cooperation and friendship over the years and are totally in love with this drinking version of one of our favorite doughnuts.

Portland Cider Co.’s blueberry bourbon basil is available until April and can be purchased at two restaurants in Portland Cider Co. This year you can also find it at Blue Star Donuts Mississippi and Divisions for site visits, pre-orders and delivery via Caviar and DoorDash. It can also be found in some stores in Oregon, Washington, Northern Idaho and Northern California. For more information, visit portlandcider.com/bluebergebourbonbasil.
