View London, UK – IWSR Drinks Market Analysis, the world’s leading expert in spirits, today announced the acquisition of London-based Wine Intelligence, a world leader in wine consumer expertise and research. The global offering provides the industry with a solid understanding of consumer trends, consumer behavior and growth opportunities for the global beverage industry.

Founded in 2002, Wine Intelligence carries out projects on behalf of the wine industry in more than 35 wine markets. This acquisition will allow the IWSR and Wine Intelligence teams to create a world-class consumer behavior unit focused exclusively on the global spirits industry.

As Covid-19 changes consumer behavior and events related to alcohol consumption, industry representatives are seeking to better understand the consumer attitudes that are driving the market, said Mark Meek, CEO of IWSR. Our vision is shaped by our customers and this acquisition provides us with an excellent opportunity to expand our existing offering and work with the Wine Intelligence team to provide the industry with access to comprehensive consumer information across all categories of the beverage industry, including beer, wine, spirits and ready-to-drink products.

This acquisition follows decades of successful collaboration between IWSR and Wine Intelligence. Recent collaborations include the Covid-19 Consumer Tracker IWSR, a series of in-depth consumer sentiment studies that track the current impact of Covid-19 on consumer alcohol use and attitudes over an 18-month period.

We are excited to join the IWSR family after nearly 10 years of collaboration between our organizations on behalf of our clients, said Lulie Halstead, CEO of Wine Intelligence. I share Mark’s vision of creating a comprehensive, world-class consumer data and information offering to support the global alcoholic beverage industry, for which we are uniquely positioned.

The IWSR is the main source of data and information on the market for alcoholic beverages. The IWSR industry database quantifies world markets for wine, spirits, beer, cider and ready-to-drink (RTD) products by volume and value in 160 countries, and provides information on short- and long-term trends, including five-year forecasts in volume and value. The IWSR monitors overall consumption and trends at the level of brands, price segments and categories. Our data is used by leading international wine, spirits and beer companies, as well as financial and beverage marketing specialists. The unique methodology of the IWSR allows us to get closer to actual consumption and better understand how markets work. The IWSR has a team of global analysts, each with local market experience and an extensive network of local industry contacts. Our analysts meet and discuss industry contacts throughout the year to better understand local conditions, key market trends and why these numbers matter.
