When you can make wine that is this good for this cheap, it is hard to go wrong. The Andis Barbera d’Amador is so good that I needed to do a double take when I looked at the bottle. I thought I had found a $20 bottle of wine, but I actually found a $10 bottle of wine. The Barbera d’Amador is the perfect wine for anyone who wants a cabernet, merlot, or chianti for less than $10. I can’t wait to share this discovery and I hope that you will buy at least a case!

At next week’s WineFest, Andis Wines will be offering a taste of its Barbera d’Amador, a blend of Barbera and other red grapes. The best part? You can get a bottle from them for $15.

With a perfect aroma score of 10, 92-93 points and a 40% saving, don’t miss this wine grown on a vineyard in the Sierra foothills – Andis Wines Barbera d’Amador!

This is a 100% Barbera from the Andis Estate vineyard in the Sierra Foothills AVA. The wine is fermented in steel vats and spent 18 months in French oak, 15% of which is new. Only 791 boxes were produced.

This wine also has almost no residual sugar (<0.4g/L), but don’t be fooled into thinking it has no sweet fruit flavors! The tasting panel awarded 93 points to the 2018 wine we offer here and gave it 92 points.

The name of the wine (Barbera d’Amador) is an ode to the excellent Barbera grown in the county of Amador, similar to the Italian regions of Alba and Asti. The first vineyards in Amador were planted in 1849 during the gold rush, and Italian varieties such as Zinfandel, Sangiovese and especially Barbera have been leading the way ever since.

And the Barbera grown here is really special, as this is one of my favorite places in the world for this variety. If you’ve had the chance to taste one of our Barbera’s by Scott Harvey (our #2 wine of 2020), you’ll know why. Today’s wine is just as good.

This latest vintage (2018) is only available at the winery for $30.

Out of the bottle:

Andis Wines was founded in 2010 as an emerging winery with a sustainable design. Our building has a modern look and feel and is geared towards user-friendliness and environmental friendliness. We use the fruit of our estate and the best vineyards in the region to produce wines of exceptional character and varietal purity.

Barbera is an Italian grape variety that arrived in Amador County during the gold rush of the 1850s and continues to thrive here today. Its natural acidity and deep color make it an excellent blend option, but also an excellent stand-alone wine with black cherry, raspberry, sun-dried tomato and vanilla characteristics.
Aloha, Andy Friedlander and Janice Acuna

Produced and bottled by Andis Wines
14.5% alcohol

Andis Wines’ 2018 Barbera d’Amador begins with beautiful blackberry and bright cherry fruit intertwined with spice, black pepper and vanilla. It’s a nice, juicy flavor that sucks you right into the glass.

The taste of the wine is wonderfully pleasant! With rich, juicy sour fruit flavors, excellent acidity and a silky texture, this is a beauty. It has almost no residual sugar, but is very tasty, with a hint of sweet and sour candy.

The finish is dry, very long and persistent, a little tannic and chewy. Serve it with pizza or anything with tomato sauce and you’ll be happy. The second day was just as good.

As mentioned before, we really like Barbera from this region, and this wine is a good example of that. If you liked Scott Harvey Barbera’s book, you will like this one too!
