NAPA VALLEY, February 2021 – Mayacamas, Napa Valley’s renowned vineyard on the slopes of Mount Veeder, is proud to announce the release of its 2019 Chardonnay and 2018 Merlot. Winemaker Braiden Albrecht and consulting winemaker Andy Erickson produce these wines with an unwavering dedication to the classic techniques essential to the character of these varietals.

Our team is dedicated to continuing the legacy of Mayacamas, and it is this hard work that sets these outings apart from other Napa offerings, said Brayden Albrecht, winemaker at Mayacamas. Both varieties were harvested early in their respective seasons to preserve their natural acidity and structured tannins. Chardonnay 2019 is full of volume, breadth and concentration with an expansive palette and layers of texture. The fruity aromas combined with the spicy notes of Merlot 2018 provide detail, nuance and a lingering finish.

The 2019 Chardonnay was hand picked in late August, pressed in whole bunches, fermented in neutral and stainless steel barrels, then aged for 10 months in a combination of large buffet, punch and neutral barrel before bottling. This concentrated vintage opens with spicy aromas of acacia and jasmine, supported by a lovely palette of ripe Barlett pear fruit, sour pineapple and melon. On the finish, notes of bright tropics, orchards and broken flint linger.

The Merlot, harvested in September 2018, was destemmed and pressed before being fermented in an open concrete barrel, while the Cabernet Franc, representing 6% of the final blend, was fermented in stainless steel. Both grape varieties were aged in neutral French oak before the Merlot rested in full wool and the Cabernet Franc 22 months in barrel before bottling. The result is a wine with spicy aromas of violet and lavender, supported by raspberry, plum and dried blueberry. Dried sage and fresh mint broaden the midpalate, with haunting notes of red fruit, black tea and dried herbs on the finish.

The Mayacams 2019 Chardonnay and 2018 Merlot will officially be available in March, priced at $50 each for a 750ml bottle of Chardonnay and $65 each for a 750ml bottle of Merlot. For more information, visit

Founded in 1889, Mayacamas is one of the most telling vineyards in California’s Napa Valley, on the slopes of Mount Veeder.  Since the 1950s, the winemaking of Mayacamas wines has remained remarkably consistent, with an unwavering commitment to using classic techniques and tools that are essential to the character of the Mayacamas brand and product. In July 2013, Mayacams was purchased by the Jay Schottenstein family, marking the beginning of a new and bright era for Mayacams. Schottenstein will continue the legacy and 125-year history of Mayacamas and lead the brand into the future. Thanks to the careful restoration of the winery and renewed attention to detail in viticulture and winemaking, their vision is becoming a reality. The highly qualified team includes winemaker Brayden Albrecht, led by Andy Erickson, one of the most experienced winemakers of his generation. In the vineyard, renowned organic winemaker Phil Coturri oversees replanting and soil regeneration. Visitors can taste Mayacamas wines and purchase luxury items at the tasting room in downtown Napa, or take a tour of the vineyard to sample the mountains of the road.  For more information, visit [].
