The most popular wine tasting in the world travels to the southern hemisphere for the December Webinar.
10. December 2020. (Los Angeles, California) – The SOMM Journal is pleased to announce the fourth in a series of webinars on geography and wine education launched in September. The southern hemisphere: For the 16th. A virtual broadcast of the subsoil of the region to the Andes is planned by December 2020. The series, carried out in collaboration with National Geographic Books and the recently published New Sotheby’s Wine Encyclopedia, aims to bring together world leaders in the wine industry to make wine lovers at all levels aware of the world of wine.
Although, as we know from time immemorial, the world of wine began in the northern hemisphere, winemakers and producers from the depths of the world are turning the situation around. The southern hemisphere: From the foothills of the Andes to the top of the Andes, spectators travel south through Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Chile, Argentina and Peru to explore the terroirs, techniques and fairy tales of these diverse wine regions in the southern hemisphere. Led by Lars Leicht, Vice President Education for the SOMM Journal and The Tasting Panel magazine, a panel of seven winemakers from the southern hemisphere meets to discuss the terroirs that make their regions unique and how these characteristics are embodied in the glass.
The southern hemisphere is one of the participants of the webinar: Julian Groounds, Chief Winemaker of Craggy Ridge in New Zealand; Tim Irwin, CEO of Penfolds in the United States and Australia; Sebastian Labe, winemaker of Viña Santa Rita in Chile; Luis Gómez, Winemaker of Peruvian Intipala; Chief Winemaker David Bonomi of Bodega Norton, Argentina; Chief Winemaker Juan Pablo Murghia of Bodega Argento, Argentina; and South African wine owner Reyneke Johan Reyneke.
The educational webinar series of Geographic Digest will be continued in 2021 with the following presentations: 21. January Study of famous individual vineyards; 18. February: Technology or terroir – production or nature, are these wines great? Italy – from north to south; 22. April: 20. Luxury of remarkable sites. Mei: The world of Bordeaux mingles; and the 24. June Western Europe.
