Chris Missick, author of the Viti+Culture podcast, announces his plans for YouTube and the podcast.
Apr 7 – The growth of podcasts and listeners accelerated during the Covid 19 pandemic. According to a February Forbes article, podcasts will reach an estimated 100 million Americans per month by 2020. Business Insider noted that viewership has more than doubled since 2016 and is expected to grow 16% year-over-year.
In the continuing growth of podcasts, Finger Lakes winemaker Chris Missick is proud to announce the launch of Viti+Culture. The Viti+Culture podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and you can watch videos of all the interviews on the YouTube channel. We’ll talk a lot about wine, but that won’t be the whole conversation, Mrs. Missick said. Viti+Culture will organize conversations with producers, farmers, thinkers and artists, emphasizing the value of appreciating the aesthetics associated with the good life.
Podcasts of the same name that also appear on the lists of recommended podcasts include Wine for Normal People by Elizabeth Schneider, I’ll Drink to That by Levi Dalton, Unreserved Wine Talk by Natalie McLean. As a wine podcast, Viti+Culture is unique in that it is one of the few hosted by a winemaker, offers both video and audio, and is willing to go beyond the glass to explore a range of topics from history and philosophy to art, music, and sustainability.
Missick said: Like my wine production, the podcast is about quality and intellectual depth. We use the best audio equipment, provide our community with engaging videos, and are dedicated to having in-depth conversations with a range of interesting personalities. I was inspired by the work of Joe Rogan and Mike Rowe and wanted to produce a show like that too. Our family business came together, found a great studio space and helped build a building with tasting rooms in Geneva, NY.
The podcast will be available on the 8th. Starts in April 2021, and a new show will appear every Thursday. The interviews are published every two weeks and are interspersed with surveys on current activities in the vineyard (Season 1) and in the winery (Season 2). Guests include a number of Finger Lakes wine industry leaders and others, including Scott Osborne of Fox Run Vineyards, Laura Winter Falk of Experience the Finger Lakes, Paul Brock of Silver Thread Vineyards and Finger Lakes Community College, and Bob Madill, co-founder of Sheldrake Point Winery, as well as prominent musicians and philosophers.

Missick has received numerous 90+ point scores for his wines, his Chenin Blanc, Riesling and Cabernet Franc farms in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. He is an Army veteran and the only American winemaker allowed to argue before the U.S. Supreme Court. After a decade of ownership and changes by Covid-19, the Missick family winery recently changed its name from Bellangelo to Missick Cellars. Details of this change will be announced shortly.
