The partnership began as a way for Bâtonnage and Nomadica to celebrate their shared belief that wine is not only a beverage that should be enjoyed to the fullest. Their collaboration was a way to raise awareness for their passion for mentorship in the wine industry. As a result, the partnership has grown into something much more than a simple business relationship. The two groups have learned from each other, and now Bâtonnage and Nomadica are working together to promote mentorship in the wine industry and raise funds for their cause.

Bâtonnage Wine Company is partnering with Nomadica, an organization that offers mentorship to women in the wine industry, to create a special edition of their canned wine. The limited-edition box set has two canned contents: a white and a red, which the companies have dubbed as the “Bottled Freedom Duo.” The wines will be the first canned wines to be released for sale in the U.S., and will be labeled with Nomadica’s logo along with the slogan “Buy a Bottle, Change the World!” all for a suggested retail price of $30.

Sonoma, Calif. (April 26, 2021) – Bâtonnage, an organization and community dedicated to raising the profile of women in winemaking and promoting equality in the industry, has partnered with Nomadica to produce a limited edition canned wine in support of the recently launched Bâtonnage mentorship program.

Nomadica, an all-female, LGBTQ+, sommelier-led wine brand, is a collection of curated wines made with grapes from responsible farms and minimal cellar intervention. Christine Olszewski, founder and CEO of Nomadica and mentor in the Bâtonnage’s Mentoring Program, deliberately chose light cans as packaging to reduce the weight of the load and therefore the carbon footprint.

The partnership’s exclusive offering is a 4-pack of sparkling rosé wines, made from 100% Pinot Noir from vineyards in Monterey County; each can is sold for $8 – 100% of the proceeds go to the mentoring program and related activities. The unique illustration on the label is a self-portrait by talented photographer Alisha Sommer (@alisha_sommer). To view his other work, visit alishasommer.com and sommersalt.com.

These 4-packs are now available at women-friendly stores and restaurants across the United States, including: Bay Grape Napa, Tribeca Wine, Copake Wine Works, Harding’s Market, Park Avenue Fine Wines, Frasca Food and Wine, A16, Olmsted NYC, Gigi’s, Graft Wine Shop, 3 Parks Wine Shop, Montrose Cheese & Wine, Wine & Rock Shop and Wine + Eggs.

The Bâtonnage mentoring programme aims to create opportunities for those seeking guidance, career advice and networking opportunities in five sectors (winemaking/production, viticulture, sales and marketing, retail and hospitality) within the wine industry. In the first mentoring programme of level 1, 49 mentors met over 140 mentees. Level 2 (from May 2021) and Level 3 programmes will start later this year. The success of the Level 1 programme was confirmed by feedback and testimonials from Level 1 mentors and mentees collected through an anonymous survey.

About Forum Bâtonnage

Bâtonnage was founded in 2018 by Stevie Stasionis and Sarah Bray and is now produced by O’Donnell Lane, LLC. Bâtonnage is the idea of all those who identify as women and who work in different sectors of the wine industry. The forum serves as a platform to educate wine industry professionals and supporters about the unique challenges and opportunities faced by women in the industry – winemakers, vineyard workers, writers and marketers, retailers, sommeliers, collectors and drinkers – past and present. The Bâtonnage goes far beyond a one-day forum and becomes a community that seeks to explore and apply pragmatic solutions to chart a positive and inclusive course. Remember the date for Forum 2021, which will be held from 22 to 24. The month of June will be online. For more information and to join the discussion, visit batonnageforum.com.
