La Romaine from 1865, a legendary wine recognized worldwide as one of the most remarkable wines produced in Burgundy since the 19th century.
Geneva, February 9, 2021 – Baghera/Wine announces its next auction, “Mémoires de Rhum”, to be held on April 18, 2021 at the Beau-Rivage – Geneva. This immense “vertical” will highlight more than a century and a half of this prestigious cruise, with a total of nearly 2,000 bottles of La Romanée Grand Cru to be presented at this historic sale. The bottles, which show a near-perfect state of preservation, come from the trusted cellars of Bouchard Père & Fils, one of Burgundy’s leading houses, which has been in continuous operation for nearly three centuries.
Bouchard Père & Fils: almost 300 years of history, transmission and development of the best terroirs of Burgundy.
The Bouchard Père & Fils company was founded in Beaune in 1731 by Michel Bouchard, making it one of the oldest winemakers in Burgundy. Since the 18th century, it has preserved the traditions, values and philosophy of the best terroirs of Burgundy. Since 1995, the Côte d’Or estate has been a source of inspiration for families of independent entrepreneurs, from the Bouchard Père & Fils family to the Enriot family, who do their best generation after generation to develop and help sustain this exceptional estate. Today, Bouchard Père & Fils is the undisputed international reference for all lovers of great Burgundy terroirs.
The house is based on three fundamental values: historical evidence of the development of Burgundy and its grands crus and premiers crus for nearly 300 years; evidence of the transfer by the family and independent shareholders since 1731; and finally evidence of the terroir, reflected in the size, age and prestige of the estate’s world-famous terroirs.
This 130-hectare estate, the largest in the Côte d’Or for Premiers and Grands Crus, illustrates about a hundred “climats” stretching 55 km north-south between Jévry-Cambertin and Montrachet.
This is above all the story of the meeting between the founders of Baghera/Wine and Dom Bouchard Per et Fils, the founder of the Roma Memories project. It is not just about words, but about an undeniable affinity in terms of values, approach, respect for things of the past and the ability to interpret them in the present in order to meet the challenges of preserving the oenological heritage of the world.
Michael Gunn and Julie Carpentier, founders of Bouchard/Wine and auctioneers, are currently commenting on the sale, “We are delighted to honor the brightest star of the Côtes de Nuit at our next sale, titled Mémoires de la Romanée 1862-2005, which will take place in April. The sale is a tribute to Bouchard Père & Fils, whose passion and dedication over decades have drawn attention to the unique character of La Romanée’s terroir. The 1926 bottles, magnums and jeroboams that make up this set are the last to have belonged to Bouchard Père & Fils. We are honored to present this majestic collection to all Burgundy lovers. Given the exceptional nature of this event, the Maison Bouchard calls upon its know-how, always cultivated in the art of reworking all the bottles from 1926. Although it is sometimes necessary to sacrifice a bottle for this purpose, each bottle was tasted (nose), reworked with great care and then labeled. The bottles received new wax caps and a ProofTag tracking system designed especially for this event, giving collectors an additional guarantee of origin.”
Gilles de Larouzier Henriot, President of Bouchard Père & Fils, stated, “We are delighted to entrust this treasure to Baghera/Wines. In keeping with our values and theirs, Baghera Wines has the experience, knowledge and ability to track down the most passionate and dedicated wine collectors.” These latest bottles of Romanes Grand Cru, a Burgundian treasure of which we are proud, bear the deep significance of the work of our House and are also a powerful testimony to the heritage of Burgundy. We are closing a chapter in the history of Bouchard Père & Fils and offering wine lovers around the world an incredible opportunity to access this priceless treasure.”
LA ROMANA is a Grand Cru: the smallest of the Grands Crus of Burgundy.
Nestled like a diamond in the heart of the Côte de Nuits, La Romanée embodies the essence of Burgundy, precious, secret and fertile. With La Romanée-Conti, Richebourg, La Romanée-Saint-Vivant and others, not to mention Volnay or Montrachet, it is one of the great names that have brought international fame to Burgundy. An incredible combination of magical lands and the hard work of human hands. La Romanée is a harmonious symphony where human intuition guides nature to create the best and most precious it can give.
Of the 85 bottles at this site, an average of about 3,600 bottles are produced per year, underscoring their importance, value and rarity. The bottles sold here cover production from the 19th century to 2005 and are the last in the possession of Bouchard Père & Fils. As a reminder of the transmission of knowledge and values, these bottles will soon be passed on to a new buyer and enchant other gourmets.
Bagher/Wine’s “LA ROMANEE MEMORIES” is selling like crazy.
On April 18, as part of the Mémoires de Rhum sale, Baghera/Vins will have the great honor of presenting to the public a series of nearly 2,000 bottles from the cellars of the Maison Bouchard Père & Fils. This extremely rare collection of 1,926 bottles, magnums and hieroglyphs contains wines in an impeccable state of preservation, the result of a long resting period in the cellars of the Château de Beaune.
The long-standing expertise of the Maison Bouchard Père & Fils lies above all in the quality of the wine storage in these historic cellars and in the artisanal processing. The entire collection is perfectly “artisanal” and labeled according to the strictest standards in consultation with the greatest winemakers. This process is generally carried out at Bouchard Père & Fils every 30 years, guaranteeing the impeccable quality of the bottles in their possession.
This treatment offers an important additional guarantee to any lover of mature or aged wines, by allowing him to taste a nectar of exemplary taste quality, and also a guarantee of optimal preservation over the years and decades. From both points of view, this is a truly impeccable collection that will be auctioned at the next Baghera/Wine sale.
The main details about the Maison Bouchard Père & Fils :
- 1731: Foundation of the house by Michel Bouchard. A textile merchant from the Dauphiné, he settles in Beaune and begins trading in wine with his son Joseph.

- Today, Gilles de Larouzier Enriot, nephew and successor to Joseph Enriot, sees himself more as an heir to a set of impeccable standards to be passed on and perpetuated than as an heir to a name and a legacy.
