The 2018 Bordeaux will be considered an exceptional vintage for years to come. Not just because the wines at the top were delicious. The quality of a vintage can also be measured by the performance of smaller wines from a more complex terroir. I tasted 800 2018 Bordeaux wines, covering all appellations and price ranges, and discovered some gems!

In 2018, there are many affordable, easy-drinking Bordeaux value wines from across the region. Many of them are ordinary Bordeaux AOCs. Some of these wines come from less important terroirs. Other Bordeaux AOC wines are produced by large wine domains. However, because it does not conform to their naming conventions, the wines are relegated to generic Bordeaux AOC.

There is a sea of AOC Bordeaux wines. And many, if not most, are not very interesting. But if you can separate the wheat from the chaff, which we have done for you, there are some AOC Bordeaux wines with a good value for money that are worth buying. Some are on the case! This is the advantage of the big vintages for the more complex terroirs.

As you can see from the tasting notes below, the 2018 Bordeaux AOC is a red and white Bordeaux wine. Some are predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, while others have predominantly Merlot in their blends. So there’s plenty to choose from.

Of course, I want to try all the big names. Who isn’t? But perhaps the best part of tasting a vintage is discovering the small châteaux that produce delicious wines for everyday use, sold at a price everyone can afford. Truly, the best AOC Bordeaux wines of 2018 offer early drinking, charm, pleasure at a very friendly price.
